Everyone has a title within the forum. You will notice them below the Username in each post. Some titles are automatically assigned based on the number of posts a user has made, and some titles are assigned by the forum owner to denote official representatives of the company or other VIPs in the forums.

Here is the list of the standard titles and # of posts to achieve them:

0 stranger
25 newbie
50 journeyman
100 member
200 enthusiast
400 addict
700 old hand
1200 veteran
1600 Pooh-Bah
2500 Carpal Tunnel

I was just wondering about something. Are these titles a good thing or bad thing to have? My notion is that sometimes people will spam because they don't like a title that indicates they've made very few posts. So somehow, the idea is having more posts makes you better...

Thanks.

Yes, i agree with you - there are some people who really don't like being a newbie or whatever...and have chose to spam (even if it doesn't fit with the discussion)to get a higher number...
Not to mention any names though... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/badsmile2.gif" alt="" />

Hi,

So what do you think we should do about titles? Is it possible to change the titles in a manner where people with few posts are just as good as people with many posts? Other suggestions?

Thanks.

er, no names? I personally like titles, but i can understand the people who don't like being a newbie or something, but the titles do kind of say how long, and if people have helped out, witht eh numbers.

nah....we already talked about this somewhere...although
it probably started out as something completely different... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ouch.gif" alt="" />
and ended up talking about it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

is is a good thing ....specially for people looking for
a "vetran" say..... or "carpal tunnel", or "Pooh-Bah".....
for some help
i mean if you've spammed that much,
and still don't know anything, <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ouch.gif" alt="" />
at least you should know WHO to point that person to.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/stupid.gif" alt="" />
so whatever, there will always be, as long as there is,
it just goes back to that saying....there's always someone....... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/suspicion.gif" alt="" />

The titles will be changed soon to something like on the old forum, so they are more in line with the RPG mood. Perhaps some people will still not be happy when they see "Shield bearer" next to their name, but at least it will be obvious that it is meant as a chuckle, whereas "newbie" has more chances for being downright offensive to some.

Incidentally, resetting a user's post count to zero is about 3 mouse clicks of work, so if people are spamming just to get the count up, they may find a surprise the next time they log in <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> We have almost 2000 users now, you can imagine the mayhem if they all write 50 posts a day to get that count up..

To sum up : a bit more patience, and a bit of restraint, please <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Thanks ! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

i think it's perfect possible to change the titels without recetting the post count.

Normaly the post count is a reference on how mutch "experiance"= "knowledge" a person has on these forums.
euh did a mentioned the word "normaly"? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

Yes, ofcourse. The titles will change, the post counts won't.

As long as you have a postcount people will spam. The perception of having a hierarchy in titles will only add to that. So even with no titles there would still be spamming.
I remember one time the Black Isle forums disabled post counting resulting in all posters having 0 posts and staying on 0 posts, regardless of how much posting they did. Apparently that helped, although it takes away a bit of the fun.

Ok death, complete it with your better names, everybody can do that and after that we can do a selection of the best names with a poll.

Yo bean, your avatar isn't "ok" to show - isn't working. Unless for me.
