When I enter the room that Halsin is caged in, unlike many "how-to" vids I've watched to see how this quest worked and watch players enter the room and walk to the back of the room where the druid is being kept, when I enter the room, I'm automatically engaged in battle. Up to this point I've walked through the goblen camp with no engagement other than talking with NPC's and making my rolls. Once I kill whatever is in this room, Halsin is already dead.

I've been searching teh interwebz for someone one who has dealt with this scenario. I've advanced search all the BG3 forums here and still not coming across the reason this happened nor a solution. My saves do not go back all that far so I hope this is not a 'start over' situation.

I look forward to any ideas and or suggestions any of you all might have.

Did you try to restart the game and reload from before entering the room?

I actually managed to enter there quite peacefully despite the whole camp being alerted (I botched the assassination of Minthara)

Yes I have and should have stated that. I've gone back to my oldest save and still no bueno. I've also left that room with the door and explored more, came back to the same thing. I'm walking around peacefully, no aggro whatsoever. I'm new to the game but not this genre. I'm at a loss. Might just have to restart this, but I hope not.

Damn, that sucks. One thing you could try (it might take a while and I don’t know if it will fix it):

Go along with the raid the grove quest by telling Minthara where the grove is and betray her at the last minute, siding with the tieflings. I did that in my current playthrough and found it a fair bit harder than just offing the leaders, particularly keeping all the tieflings alive (at level 4). But it’s an alternative good path option, and on completion Halsin just shows up, having escaped on his own (hoping that might override whatever glitch you have).

As you’d be trying it as a workaround, maybe switch to easiest mode temporarily if you’re a lower level and don’t let Zevlor bite it.

You could also try using an invis potion and going back to see if he's alive before you engage them

Imma definitely try. I did start a new game, however, and got to that point by progressing straight there and taking no detours. Was able to save Halsin with no issue. I am going to go back to that original game and try that out. Thanks for the suggestion. Imma definitely try. Also a great idea. I'll try that first before Dagless's suggestion. I also started a new game and got to rescue Halsin with no issue, but the completionist in me is going back to the original game and this this figured out. Thanks again!
