Is it just me, or by the time you're confronting Ketheric he seems to regret everything he has done and just want his family back?
The guy, to me, sounded like the saddest half-elf in Faerun ever. And i think it was nice how Larian put him a place by the end that he question everything he has done and how wasn't worthy.
I swear for a time I truly believe we could save him and he'd join as member, hahaha, after a big fight with Myrkul.
Reading all his diaries and paying attention to his story, Ketheric wasn't fully in on the whole destroy Baldur's Gate thing, conquer the world.
He just wanted his child back (Isobel), and if he had others he doesn't mention, and wife. He was just tired of it all and seemed like he wanted peace.

I felt sorry for him too and I think that was his purpose as a character. He "just" wanted his daughter back, but when he gets her in a variant of the events he doesn't really treat her like a father would. To be honest, he feels like this guy who should be the last villain before the Absolute; Gortash and Orin seem much less dramatic than him. He would probably took the focus away from the final fight, but anyway.

He's an absolutely terrible person. Bad things happened to him, but his responses? No, I don't feel sorry. He had it coming. It wouldn't be as tragic if he didn't. The people I feel sorry for are those that got stuck in the crossfire.

I'm sorry my paladin couldn't bring him back to the side of good. Although I passed all the checks in the dialogues, it only shortened the fight - he still summoned Myrkul's avatar and died
Thanks to Larian for Baldurs Gate 3 and the reaction to player feedback

I did not want to redeem him, he looked like Vitate from swtor (I am thinking it may be him actually). Since the fight with valkorian was poorly executed, I took this opportunity to yeet Kethric and his daughter out of stealth to his death , and was laughing about it for about 1 hour after. Funniest fight in game. Poorly written, but funny

I agree with you!! I was even sick of the scenes after the finale of the 2nd act. Keterik did everything for his daughter, and in gratitude for this, his daughter kisses her friend and reacts in the style, "Died and died, what a trouble, and anyway, what are you standing here, don't bother us." I have one question for the Larian screenwriters - are you people with a normal moral orientation ? are you all right?

He 1) turned everyone in their family into monsters, 2) killed probably everyone else she ever knew 3) destroyed their homeland 4) tormented her lover 5) became an evil dictator type of villain bend on world domination
... Why would she thank him? For killing and wrecking destruction in her name? If you did this to revive *me*, I might kill you as "thanks". The man she could recognise as her father died a long time ago.

And yet , it is only thanks to her father that she lives in this world , or will you argue with the statement - it is better to be alive than dead ?

If the question is a trolley problem with one life vs thousands if the Absolute won, why would I not? That's some next level necromancy flavoured survivor's guilt. You'll have a hard time finding someone thankful, much less a thankful Selunite.

When the only reason you lived this long is enslaving your daughter's lover to an evil goddess and torturing her to extend your life is a bit on the gross side

Maybe I had a different conversation than Ketheric than everyone else because I let Shadowheart kill Nightsong, but he outright told my character that he was planning on betraying Orin and Gortash to take control of the Cult of the Absolute and lead it as an army for Myrkul. Ketheric is solidly in big bad territory.

Well, to his defense and not excusing all the evil deeds he made.
After all if you go to bed with the Devil, you better know there's no way your soul will be free.
Ketheric despised his son (thiebold, i think according to dialogue, let's hope not) for being a fool and drunk, sure a disappointment to every family
Isobel was his hope for the Thorm family, the girl was talented, smart and strong. I don't give a damn about her sexual orientations, love has no face.
when she died, Ketheric lost his way, he pratically sell his soul for her and to keep that bargain he had to move from everything he believed before, and when Melaine, his wife died. He losted even more.
I find his story sad because, he lost everything was dear for him and when the good gods turn their back on a devoted follower he got angry as most people would. So he did out of despertion to bring back everything and made a mess out of it.
When you fight him on Moonrise, he thought himself invecible for the powers he got in exchange for his power. He did bad deeds, yes, but you can see clearly at the end, he regreted everyhting he had done wrong when his daughter brought back to life shunned him out.
But you can see there's not lost love between them, her room has his bust as selune paladin or follower, whatever.
When he died, she wasn't happy for his death, she was happy that whatever took hold of his mind was stopped. The only one happy was Jaheira and Aylin.
Isobel clearly says in camp: "May the gods rest his soul and he finds peace", there isn't hate in there, just pity for how low her father fell.
