Daft question but how do you tell if you have Patch 1 or Patch 1 with the hotfix?

I've just done a quick experiment and uninstalled Mod Fixer. My save loaded without a problem.
I then went through my 10 mods and 5 state MF as a requirement, 4 don't have any requirement and 1 is currently taken down by the author over on Nexus so is a "don't know".
The mod which has been taken down (due to unsolvable technical problem) is More Feats - https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/156
I uninstalled this mod and my game consistently crashed while trying to load the save. I could start a new game (at least to CC) but the save wouldn't have it.
I reinstalled the mod and the save loaded.
(When installing, uninstalling or reinstalling I always hit the save load order and the export load order buttons in BG3MM (I do both so I'm less likely to forget))

The four mods which don't give any requirements are:
Basket Full of Equipment
Improved UI
Zerd's RAW
Unlock Level Curve

The five giving MF as a requirement are:
5e Potions
5e Spells
BG3 Fixed
Choose Your Stats
Feats Extra (Not to be confused with More Feats)

Now if I have Patch 1 plus the hotfix then all well and good. If I only have Patch 1 then I don't want to go and get the hotfix.

I had the patch downloaded on the day it was announced and the day after, there was another update.
You can see on Steam, if your game is up to date.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I am GOG.

Ah, ok. I don't know, how it works there.

I am not sure whats going on but since patch 2 my game was locking up during conversations. I have about 8 mods, I removed this one and now everything is working just fine. BTW I am a vortex user. Just thought I would let people know what worked for me.

From what I see we are at the same point of confusion we were in after Patch 1 and the stealth Patch 1 dropped.

Larian fixed BG3, so it doesn't need a mod fixer anymore, and that makes them fuckwits?

If using mods is intellectually too taxing for you, you might want to consider playing without.

They did NOT fix it. A lot of mods still require the Fixer...

No, they require a fix. Using the fixer leads to other problems.
Seriously, blaming the devs for broken mods is such a hilarious notion.

First, Larian didn't 'fix' anything as there was nothing broken as far as modding goes. The Mod Fixer was needed because Larian have been promising full modding support for a long time but have yet to deliver. And this 'fix' as you call it is not full modding support by any stretch of the imagination.

You might want to consider upping your reading skills. My comments were about the confusion due to Larian doing things without telling anyone and then undoing things without telling anyone. Neither the patch notes for Patch 1 or those for Patch 2 mentioned anything about mods. Patch 1 had an unannounced fix which would have made Mod Fixer redundant but for some reason (they fucked up?) they almost immediately pushed out an unannounced patch which removed this modding fix. The problem here was compounded by them using the same release number for both the patch and the fix for the patch. Now they appear to have done a similar thing with Patch 2 - no mention in the patch notes and an unannounced modding fix which is again causing all sorts of confusion.

And for the record I have been modding games for almost a quarter of a century. I mod every game I play whenever there are mods available. I had an extremely stable Skyrim LE that had anywhere between 2 and 3 hundred mods installed featuring between 27,000 and 29,000 NPCs. So I think my intellectual capacity is sufficient for modding BG3 with currently about 12 mods.

This is from Nexus and Steam so take it with a pinch of salt.

From what I can gather Mod Fixer is no longer required but some mods require updating with ImprovedUI being mentioned in this regard but this mod was updated at about 2230hrs (BST) last night.

The Mod Fixer description page still has the same comments but the Community Manager from earlier in the week.

I've not installed Patch 2 yet but I might give it a go shortly or I may wait until more of my mods get updated.

Okay I installed Patch 2. I haven't needed Mod Fixer since Pack 1 (actually forgot about that until tonight).

Tried to start game and got an error from Native Camera Tweaks about a dll. Grabbed the Native folder from BG3\bin and plonked it on my desktop.

Tried again and the game loaded. Then the save loaded and there I am in the Last Light inn (moved around a bit in there). Not touched any other mod.

Uninstalled and updated a few of my mods (including ImprovedUI). Game loaded.

Updated Native Camera Teaks and dumped the folder back into \bin.

Save loaded into the game without any errors or problems.

ImprovedUI no longer sits in the Override section, it's now in the left hand pane with the other mods.

The graphics in my game improved quite noticeably with Patch 1 and they seem to have improved but not quite as much with this patch (I'm not complaining). That's first impressions base on the interior of the LL inn. Larian said somewhere that they would tweak colours so that the colour you chose in CC was matched by what you saw in game. This doesn't seemed to have been addressed yet as my PC's face still looks like it is leather rather than the Mediterranean tan it was in CC. A minor niggle I can live with.

I'm none the wiser as to what is causing the problems for other people as I've not had any with either patch. I run the game directly from the BG3_DX11 exe (desktop shortcut as I do with any game).

Tomorrow I might even try playing the game again.

I am a bit lost. Do we still need the mod fixer with patch 2 or not ? Only for some mods ? But can make others mods crash?

You should not need Mod Fixer.

Make sure all your mods have been updated for Patch 2. Or at least get confirmation that they do not need updating.
Remove Mod Fixer and if your save loads then you do not need Mod Fixer. If your save does not load then you do need Mod Fixer.

Without Mod Fixer you may get a message (something about a data mismatch IIRC) but this can be ignored. If you use ImprovedUI that will remove the message.
