Well, because I'm not that much of a suck up I'm not going to say Marian but Louis Royo as a great painter-artist. I also like some of the World of Darkness/Vampire TM artists. But there are so many unknown artists with great work, just look at all those sites offering a place for those artists. (I think it was kiya on the previous forum who posted a great link to one of those sites ...)

About music ... well, sorry, but I think one of the "singers"/people I dislike the most is Eminem ...
People whom I have respect for are people like the guys from Metallica who have been "in the business" for quite some time, although they evolved to a more commercial style ... other great artists are the local, non-pop artists. People who make their own music without really caring what the mainstream is listening to ... so again I have to mention Laïs here ...

Indeed. But since I really, really, REALLY dislike rap and hip hop, I can't really judge.

You respect the PEOPLE from Metallica or the Music? Because as people, Metallica is a bunch of @#$%@#$&^#$% even if I liked the music they played before St. Anger, still they always were commericalised.

Indeed! There are some fine garage bands after all: Nickelback was a garage band and Radiohead was a schoolband. Both are now commercialised.

Eummm, yeah, the band I mentioned (Laïs) is folk though, but a capella (not all their songs).

Ofcourse there are lots of small local bands playing punk rock or the "garage" bands like you call them, but they are just like so many others, what i like to hear from time to time is something original.

If you like acapella/folk - try Stan Rogers...

Ever heard Barret's Privateers? Oh, the year was 1778, HOW I WISH I WAS IN SHERBROOKE NOW!
A letter of marque come from the king,
To the scummiest vessel I'd ever seen,

CHORUS:
God damn them all!
I was told we'd cruise the seas for American gold
We'd fire no guns-shed no tears
Now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier
The last of Barrett's Privateers.

Oh, Elcid Barrett cried the town, HOW I WISH I WAS . . .
For twenty brave men all fishermen who
would make for him the Antelope's crew
(chorus)

The Antelope sloop was a sickening sight,
She'd a list to the port and and her sails in rags
And the cook in scuppers with the staggers and the jags
(chorus)

On the King's birthday we put to sea,
We were 91 days to Montego Bay
Pumping like madmen all the way
(chorus)

On the 96th day we sailed again,
When a bloody great Yankee hove in sight
With our cracked four pounders we made to fight
(chorus)

The Yankee lay low down with gold,
She was broad and fat and loose in the stays
But to catch her took the Antelope two whole days
(chorus)

Then at length we stood two cables away,
Our cracked four pounders made an awful din
But with one fat ball the Yank stove us in
(chorus)

The Antelope shook and pitched on her side,
Barrett was smashed like a bowl of eggs
And the Maintruck carried off both me legs
(chorus)

So here I lay in my 23rd year,
It's been 6 years since we sailed away
And I just made Halifax yesterday
(chorus)

i really love this guy's work:

exploding dog

people email him titles, and he draws something from the title. simple, yet moving.

as for me, i like myself very much. pretty much a keyboardist(aren't we all)? u know QWERTY?

back to the subject, i like all sorts of music: rock (tool, soundgarden, sonic youth, radiohead, j mascis), classical (tchaikovsky, stravinsky, howard shore, john williams), techno/ambient (orbital, FSOL, aphex twin), whatever-genre (dire straits, unkle, dj shadow, cure, mr raggae himself bob marley).

it all depend on my mood.

Well, it's their first album, no?
Alright, the first few albums weren't commercialized.

No, their first published album was Kill 'em all
Their first commercialized album was ... I would say Load.
So there's a lot of uncommercial albums in between, the black one not the least ...
