despite all the bugs, patches, issues, I still take the time to thank Larian and Wotc for actually convincing me to buy a game again, after many years.
I played BG1 and 2 and Planescape Torment years ago, and I thought I would never play another cool D&D tactical game again.
I understand the challenge was enormous, with 3D implementation, adjustments, expectations, and although imperfect, Baldur´s Gate 3 is an amazing game to play.
Like someone said in another post, if you have to actually worry about your choices, dialogues, moral decisions and their consequences often times, that means the game did a good job of implementing a CRPG..and with 3D combat.
Otherwise, it is just another strategy/tactics/action game out there.
If you just want to build a party and fight, why bother playing BG3 ?!
in fact, one of my criticism of modern D&D 5E is precisely the amount of special abilities players can use at will, such as eldritch blast, which for me make D&D a bit like X-men/Marvel type action.
if Wotc continues on that trend, soon BG4 or 5 will allow a party of Black dragon Rogue, Beholder wizard, Stone giant warrior and Lich Cleric.
A suitable party for massive epic battles against entire armies.
Anyway, if anything, Larian challenged itself to do a lot, and in the process delivered one of the coolest games ever...so I fully respect their effort.
I hope whoever will partner with Wotc for a next CRPG game - be it Larian themselves or another studio - will take it from their effort and keep innovating.
ps: for those who are wondering, the black dragon Rogue first casts darkness and THEN uses his sneak breath attack for 120d6.
save for half damage.
