hi! finished the game a few days ago and about the Wyll romance it seems to be a little underwhelming?

like I see what all the other people are doing on Tik tok and although as a Demisexual i admit i don't care much about the intimate scene and actually liked the wholesomeness of it all the interactions seem to be very sparce making me feel like the whole thing is a little bit empty in comparison to the Astarion relationship which feels more fleshed out.

i guess maybe more dialogue options between camps instead of just the same 2 options would be nice, or a little more interactions like a couple of more dances or like a private conversation about him worrying about his dad, thinking about Tav´s and his future together, maybe an actual opportunity to get married as an epilogue or in game. would also be interesting to get the Duke´s reaction to the relationship maybe dependent on race or gender in some way.

i dunno what you guys think its not like much people are romancing Wyll so i understand the lack of content

You're not alone - I had a conversation about this with someone on Reddit. Compared to Astarion and Gale, Wyll's romance did feel very bare bones. On the surface, he has the same number of romantic scenes as the other folks, but he seems to have much less... side content? The little things, the special lines in conversations, etc.

My character is romancing Wyll this playthrough, and I agree it seems to be slow burn to the level of guttering out completely.

I thought it started off reasonably naturally and in quite a promising way for an engaging romance arc, but then stalled ...

My character flirted a little with Wyll before the tiefling party, and then again at the party but he seemed determinedly oblivious, just taking the flirting as her joking or being kind about his changed appearance. She got fed up, at least partly because as a tiefling herself horns and glowy eyes aren't anything to complain about and she was starting to take his comments a bit personally. She told him he was impossible and went off and had a one night stand with Astarion.

In Act 2, she told Astarion that there'd be no more of that, and then a bit later there was the prancing scene with Wyll when he finally made his move and commented he'd nearly missed what was in front of his face, which felt spot on and quite sweet (though I did find his tone when commenting on my character's "charming" dancing rather patronising).

There was the option in that dialogue to suggest spending the night together, but that felt too fast so we just said goodnight.

After that, there was a new "I want to talk about us" option in Wyll's dialogue that gave me the option to ask to kiss him, break up with him, or ask him what I meant to him. I made the mistake of choosing the latter only a day or so after the dancing and his flowery declaration felt really OTT that early in the relationship. It probably shouldn't have appeared until a bit later.

And since then ... no change, and no romance-specific dialogue that I've noticed (outside the circus dryad that I assume everyone gets). I still haven't finished his act 3 personal quest, but have rescued his dad and there's been nothing so far. I'm now wondering if that's it.

I don't know what the other romances are like as I'm avoiding spoilers as far as possible, but it does feel rather thin. Personally I'd like at least another opportunity to get laid in Act 3 if we don't take the chance as part of the dancing scene. And, yes, some small recognition of the fact we're in a relationship when talking to Wyll's dad, or talking to Wyll about his decision about what he is willing to sacrifice for his dad, would help.

I'll save making any judgement on the ending until I've got that far! Given by the end of the game I'm guessing I'll have known him for less than two months, I personally am not interested in a marriage option (to be honest, I wouldn't be even if the game's timeline were longer) but it does seem that we should at least get some sort of recognition of the relationship status in an epilogue. At least unless there's going to be the possibility of continuing the relationship in DLC or an expansion grin

Did you get any [Tiefling] lines about this when talking to him? I very deliberately made a dragonborn for his romance because I wanted to see if there would be a special option when discussing his transformation. And there was!

I'm not sure he'll actually agree at that point (I picked the same option you did). Someone should test this. For science.

Huh! Well I'm not sure whether it's as a result of patch 2 or just a coincidence, but I did just get an act 3 romance scene with Wyll that I'd not seen previously. (It's a scene by an oak.)

Ooh, I wish I could remember. I have half a thought that there might have been something about knowing what it was liked to be shunned, but I'm not even slightly sure.

I did wonder. I have been creating a save before each long rest so checking this (and whether there are tiefling act 1 lines) is feasible. Perhaps I'll have a rummage and see if I can find the right saves at some point.

Are you talking about the scene with the acorn or something else?

I have just finally finished my first playthrough. There'll be no happily ever after for Wyll and my character, unfortunately, but I could have done with a bit more reaction from Wyll in the endgame.

Spoilers for the ending as well as Wyll romance below:

My character ended up reluctantly turning into a mindflayer and then killing herself. Wyll did give an inspiring, heroic speech when she spoke to him after the transformation, but to be honest she wasn't really in the mood for it. Something a bit more personal would have felt more appropriate. And he showed more reaction in the epilogue when poor Karlach went up in flames than he had when his alleged love had stabbed herself just beforehand.

I reckon she did the right thing by knocking back his proposal!

Ouch. I much prefer the ending I got.

Karlach, thank you for your sacrifice! Poor woman - I'm afraid that even if they add a thoroughly good ending for her, she'll never see it in my games...
