I have a question about the Mindflayer Colony part of Act II, specifically regarding my party size and accessing camp.

Spoilers for Act II below.

Playing on regular difficulty, for reference.

So I failed both the strength and the two arcana checks with Mizora in the Mindflayer pod. She died, and Wyll was killed in response. I am bummed but darkly thrilled by this outcome because character death in this game is mitigated by the abundance of Revivify spells and Withers. This is the closest it's felt to a real DnD campaign from a "stakes" perspective for me (I'm aware character death is not the only way to raise stakes, but I like it!).

ANYWAY, my question is: is it possible for me to beat Ketheric Thorm with a probably-not-optimized-at-all 3-character party of a Paladin, Cleric, and Wizard? If not, is there a way at all of going up to the surface to access camp so I can pick up another character? Or must I save scum, despite how much I love this outcome?

Thanks!

Hmmm. I’m not sure, but it certainly wasn’t the easiest fight in the game for me. I barely made it.

You can try.
If someone of your party has invisibility - position the other two and send one invisible to Dame Aylin to free her. Freeing her starts the fight , therefore the positioning beforehand is important (it requires a bit of sneaking). Maybe send the paladin to fight Ketehric in melee, since they can probably take the most damage. Let Gale do crowd control and Shadowheart heal. Keep an eye on Dame Aylin, she can get downed and you don't want that. Don't wast all spells in the beginning, there is a second phase.
Thats all I can say, I only did the fight once so far.

I would say yes, definitely possible, scrolls are a big help.

If you have a dimensional door spell, even on a scroll, the first phase is a cake walk. Just take a second character to free Dame Aylin who then does some big damage in the second phase. Failing that, misty step will get you most of the way there. The first phase we were able to defeat Ketheric without Dame Aylin even having a turn, despite being free, so I suspect that she will help a lot there too.
