Starting up a new character, I decided to deal with potential inventory bloat early on by sending all of my food supplies to camp, rather than carry them around in my inventory. However, what I noticed when going to take a long rest is that unless one of your party members is actively carrying the food, it won't count as part of your food inventory, and you can't use it on Long Rest.

I would like to have the food stored at Camp count when considering what rations you have access to when taking a long rest. It feels strange to have to haul the food around when I'm only ever going to use it at Camp anyway. I could easily take it out, so it's not a game-breaking issue, but it's an odd like quirk of the game systems.

That definitely should not be happening as the feature is already in the game.

As you can see from the image below all of my food is inside of the Camp Supply Pack which is inside the Traveler's Chest, so all of the food is available to choose from when long resting;

Using any mods or is the food placed in some other container other than the Traveler's Chest?

I'm not running any mods, and it's placed inside the traveler's chest.

However, if the food is still in the Traveller's Chest when I go to long rest, I can't use it when deciding what to eat. The game doesn't treat it as if it's in my inventory because it's in the Traveler's Chest. I have to manually take it out of the chest to consume it.

Very weird then, seems like you ran into a very rare bug because I just tried to reproduce it in all imaginable ways and couldn't manage to. Food in the Traveler's Chest is properly selectable and consumed.

Might want to report it officially to Larian;

Sound advice. I filed a bug and sent them a screenshot of the issue.

This is 100% not the way my game is working, because I send all my heavy foodstuff to the traveller's chest.

I haven't been able to play in several weeks because I'm waiting for a bug to get fixed. Unless the last hotfix or patch #2 changed it, when I was messing with it, food had to bee in the player's supply pack. It didn't matter where you put the pack, in a chest or dropped on the ground, as long as it was the player's supply pack, it would take food from it when resting. If I put the food in any other container, even a spare companion's supply pack stored in a container, it wouldn't use it.
