no he's a vehicle, one that exists to limit your options and prove you right in whatever fake option you choose, side with him hes a nice guy , side against him and he becomes the bad guy. his whole character changes based on how you choose to react to him. try being nice to him and hes the good guy then reload and tell him you think hes a bad dodgy mindflayer and your right again , he has no inherent fixed motivation , thats why he can flip to joining the absolut the moment you free orphius. why not at least try to negotiate with him? why cant he trust us enough to even give the chance that both him and orphius together would be even more powerful ?
hell even though he's watched your every move the whole game, watched you romance whoever ( in my case shadowheart) and declare your love for them he still decides he wants to get it on with you anyway. its just terrible writing . its simply a plot device without any consistant motivation. and i maintain its just to push you into using the illithid powers cos larain made them and thought they were cool. hence the removal of real consequences for using them and making emperor come across like a a street hussler with a bag of crack.
