I like this game a lot. Although when compared to its predecessors it seems like half-cooked at least in the terms of campaign length (I might be wrong here, but definitelly feels like it). From my perspecitve there are few major positives and little more minor negatives for me. As a end result makes this game good, but nothing to sing praises about.

Yes, when compared to nowadays games it shines out, true.

Pros

Its Baldurs Gate
Nostalgia
Visuals and environment

Cons

12th lvl cap - played this game a little during early access, then didnt touch it for until it was fully released last month, perhaps there was some attempt to explain it by Larian, be is as it may, its silly and since half of act3 I have nothing to look foward to. Way too many experiences are flushed down the toilet.

Small party Why, just why? Yes there is a mod, but its not working for me for some reason. Why anyway is party limited to 4 rather than making fights more challenging and party of 6 instead is beyond me.

Absence of armor/weapon crafting despite the fact that you can gather tons of various metal ingots, there is no way how to put them to use. Except Adamantine forge and Dammon in Act2 (to which you lose access in Act3) the crafting is non-existent.

Woke train It looks like Larian hired half of the staff kicked out of the Twitter after Elon took over. I can swallow african elves or gnomes. But some conversation lines do not really belong into medieval fantasy ... words like "bigot", "racist" etc ... really breaking the immersion for me. Fact that all plot "couples" i have encountered are homosexual is really weird and feels forced. Cant you make it at least 50/50 even if real world ratio is much less? This constant shoving it down everyones throats is getting tiresome.

Adventure (for lack of better name) inconsistency examples
- During act3 Tiefling blacksmith Dammon acts as if I met him for the first time, despite the fact that he helped me during act2 with my "fiery friend"
- During act3 i got in the fight and got attacked by Stonelord´s crew, the fact that I had their leader in my group with me did not dissuade them, nor did they shown any form of recognizing him.
Is it lazy writing? I know this might look like cherry picking, but to me this is kind of basic thing.

Yes, i can imagine that the moment this post gets posted (if at all - censhorship rules nowadays again) there will be plenty of keyboard warriors calling me names. I dont really care.

We also have phrases such as 'good to know' and several others. Maybe it is down to the fact that I have read a lot of great literature that I find all the talk of how good Larian's writers are totally unconvincing. It's not even that good in gaming standards.
And let's not forget all the ridiculous trendy modern hair styles.

While fantasy genres often allow for anachronisms, I understand your concerns regarding the writing quality. I found the romance elements somewhat forced. It seems odd that I can't simply form friendships with male companions without first navigating their romantic advances.
