Great Game!, I gave it a solid play start to finish, tried out multiple avenues of the game. Including Multiplayer. And Modding. I have encountered a few bugs but im sure they will be worked out in time. Other than that I say this is one of the best turn based rpg experiences I have had. So I am very pleased with the game and hope that this isn't the end for this iteration.
Now A couple of my thoughts and suggestions will be outlined below:
1. Isometry:
Being an avid Xcom player I when playing a game like this i definitely start to miss the isometry of the map. It would be nice to have that tile format implemented to give me a view of the grid the map is on.
2. Cover & Flanking System:
Another system i miss from Xcom is cover, now you can utilize cover and walls in BG3 but they do not offer defensive bonuses/advantages like flanking or what have you. So that would be something nice to see in the future, positional advantage that is extended past high ground and low ground.
3. Terrain Destruction System:
Terrain destruction and terraformation are also not in play here. But that is understandably difficult to implement as this game is linear and not a sandbox.
4. Sandbox/ Challenge Mode/ Skirmish Battles:
A new game mode that offers that sandbox option could be added, as a sort of skirmish/challenge mode. Online or Offline I think that would be a great feature.
5. Server Sandbox/ Character Persistence:
A popular design for games lately has been a kind of server based sandbox that remains persistent through local hosts or dedicated servers. That system i feel could be beneficial her to allow players to drop in and out of servers with their characters remaining saved in place. Now that may seem like a feature that would place strain on the host but i feel that players created characters could remain available as hirelings at camp in a dedicated area. With the ability for them to die or be removed at the hosts behest. When a player rejoins they can take control of their character or if their character is dead, create a new or inhabit another players. The server systems I am referring to are most commonly known in games like ARK, V Rising, and others. If and/or when new campaigns are released, players will be able to select based on campaign being played in the drop down menu.
6. Advanced Custom Game Options:
It would be nice to be able to customize a myriad of aspects of the game, from character leveling to which actions are considered what and how many, how many spell slots, feats, and etc. players are alotted. These can be made available during solo or multiplayer but I think it would be invaluable to add this feature in tandem with the feature above.
7. Multiplayer Hub:
This is an alternative for the current select a server multiplayer that would create a large multiplayer hub for players to meet and join parties to begin a campaign. This is a vague idea, so it is open to interpretation.
8. Multiplayer Location Information:
My experience with multiplayer is still ongoing, it takes a while and I will probably return to this post with new information, but I did want a small note to be made for now that would allow players to view the location a player is by hovering over their name, like which map they are on, when they return to camp, when they change zones, etc. etc.
9. Multiplayer Chat and Communication:
It would be nice to be able to have multiplayer chat, whether it be text, voice, or emotes. Literally any form to extend modes of communication would be appreciated.
10. Free Campaigns:
It would be nice to play in the world outside of the main story, regardless of peoples feelings towards the main characters and story, this neutral story would allow characters to get away from it. The Neutral storyline will be based upon story selections in the character creation and they make your character the main character. The options will have players select a few individual options 3-5. That will have a story unfold for them with the length of about 2 acts. Each player gets one when playing online and a player starts as an individual when playing alone. They can meet people along the way. As the campaign should take place during the conflict of the original game and possibly referencing certain information of the escapades of the original campaign. I feel like this would be an enjoyable way to just enjoy the world of the game. Without the constraints of the main story and become engrossed in your own character.
11. Multiplayer Gold Ratio:
The Gold ratio in multiplayer should be increased, in single player its easy but with player access to each other's inventory and the scarcity of gold, it's a playground rife with griefing and honestly getting past level 5 is almost impossible with the player base as is. A prompt that asks players when drag items in and out of each other's inventory would also be pleasant. If a player would do it by force after that prompt with some kind of roll, that would be fine. But honestly will most likely end in bloodshed. Just being honest here not a whole lot gets done. There is no roleplay most times it's just a mosh pit for some players. Funny for some players but in my opinion it's not fun. Going through multiple games of the same thing. But this is just about the gold. A little gold for everyone's pockets could go a long way.
12. Infernal Engine's, Religion, Demon Contracts, and More: The Tadpole Alternative:
It would be nice if players could select religions, have upgradable infernal engines and Demon Contracts. Now These don't have to be exclusive because a player could have all of the above and a tadpole. But while infernal engines are mechanical demon contracts and religions are not, being that they are conditional they add a layer of roleplay with real consequences to player actions. Certain things players can and can't do and or must do to complete. Now A Demon contract may require carrying out a certain task to acquire items or other special abilities. Or you have to stay in line with something to keep certain abilities with a religion. Now these can come as quick and small one-time abilities before long or short rest. But I feel it would be a better option to have a few options like the Tadpoles to acquire certain items and gain a few perks. Infernal engines are upgradeable with infernal iron. Religions may use inspirations to unlock abilities. And Demon Contracts could be a randomized offer, to carry out tasks to gain either special abilities and or items. As a small add on to this I will simply say, Vampirism and Lycanthropy. Open to interpretation.
13. Official Mod Support:
As with most games it is important to be able for players to properly match mods when playing online. Certain tweaks to the game are not meant for the original game. So it would be nice for the game to receive offical mod support and for mods to be labeled and automatically downloaded for players joining modded servers. This would allow players to seamlessly join games without constant file verification error. The game is new and this is probably already planned but I would just like to say that it has my support in favor of it becomes a discussion.
14. Alignment
In my scarce experience with d&d and its discussion alignment is always a large part of the appeal to the gameplay. It would be nice for an alignment system, questline, and or campaign to be added to the game. Each with their own merit. Player selection of alignment would obviously add additional dialogue options and perhaps a once per short/long rest powers respectively. That is one way but not the only way. Players may take a questline to discover their alignment, which would award them an alignment, powers, equipment, and or companions during its course. The same could be said for an entire campaign which implements this system. Whether players select alignment at the start and have to stick with it, or players are led through a campaign blind where their choices and actions are graded. Upon reaching the finale they are awarded alignment with all of its amenities to defeat the final enemy in whatever form that may take. This suggestion could be implemented with the "Free Campaign" suggestion as well. Having a multitude of quests to complete with no forced progression would be the ideal appeal to this implementation so that it is available but not required. Much like alignment in many of the roleplay scenarios players experience.
These are just a few of the thoughts I have for BG3 in these early stages, though I am probably behind the games hype train, I thank anyone who views this, skims through or uses the poll below. Please leave me your thoughts in the comments and use the poll i set up here on the ideas you like. Thank you for your time, Have a nice day.
