It is pretty early to talk about it but I was wondering about <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" />'s price.
Normally it depends on 2 factors:
- The team's reputation
- The developpement time

DD was 3 years in developpement yet it didn't cost much.
So I wonder, will the price be the same for <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> as it was for <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" />.

I paid a normal price for it imho. It seems that many people got it very cheap a few months later, but i got it a few days after it hit the shelves so...

@Johnson : Not very smart to say that you actually copied DD on a DD forum...

Correction: Didn't cost much for a game which was 3 years in developpement
Better now ;0).
Seriously, I paid 70 + Tax for Freelancer and DD cost 45 + tax.

I got my copy of <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> the first day it hit the U.S.! I had to wait for it! Ew! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />
I think I paid 45.00$ for it...I belive it was the most unregretable 45$ I ever spent! I don't really care how much <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> will cost. I just want my copy!
Like yesterday! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

well it seems to me that a few years back i think i paid $75+tax for some of those Sega-genesis games, and that was almost 10 yrs ago....... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/puppyeyes.gif" alt="" />
relatively speaking, games have not gone as drastically high-priced,
as they probably are or could/should be, because of the very heavy competition with the multitude of games that arrive on the shelves every day...
...and the price for me....won't matter..
..i liked the first game, and i'm gonna get the second, third?
and while i'm waiting for the second.
...i'll be playin <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" />
and savin my loonies....$$ <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

The price is set by the publisher. Developers have no say in this. A publisher will try to make as much money from it as possible. As such it's trying to cut down on development time and cost and will sell the game for a price they think they will get away with.
Normal marketing rules apply here as well. Higher demand -> higer price, lower demand -> lower price. The teams reputation might add to the higher demand part. But development time might not have any relevance. Publishers prefer to work with a 'fixed price'. So what they have to pay is fixed, regardless of the development time. However when the develoment time is longer then the return on investment is longer also, which is the drive behind the publisher wanting to cut down on development time.

I remember Gathering of Developers as a kind of developers community publisher. Sadly, as I've heard it, they had not much success in it.

Sorry, but I don't much more than this ...

Well, going to local stores myself, I find the price of games rapidly rising. From like €40 to €50 for the average game now. It's kinda too much for me to buy lots of games anymore.

Last two *new* games I bought were Divine Divinty (because I swore I'd buy it heh) and Hitman2. That was like around September-October last year. The only other game I bought since then was at reduced price, Warrior Kings.

I do play newer games though, but only at friend's places who have the money to buy them. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/suspicion.gif" alt="" />

You are such a piece of work Johnson - you really are.
I can't beleive you are even on this forum...
You have a lot of audacity.

I ask again - if you created something wonderful, and had to pay people, and your opperating costs, how would you feel if people stole that from you?

Shame on you indeed (though i would use harsher words)
