I found some stuff my last playthrough
If you read just about everything in the various rooms you have access to in Cazadors house, before going to the basement. Now this is from memory but I read a note that said; (Paraphrasing)
'They' (can't remember which 'they' but it might have been whoever was the major domo in the house) were going to take Astarions place using a potion of seeming - think that was the name but anyway they were going to look like Astarion. Then when Cazador was vulnerable they were going to kill him and take his power. Clearly said personage hadn't done his homework. I remember reading it and thinking well that explains why Cazador locked the doors then, he thought everyone was in. Presumably this person didn't realise that if the ruse was succesful he'd be immobile or that the pact on Astarions back was part of the rite- he'd probably never seen it so couldn't reproduce it and was most likely dead by Cazadors hand not long after the doors were locked
