I’d assume Cazador is much more cunning than you’re giving credit for, and he’s expecting Astarion to do exactly what he did, and come to confront him. I suppose being his master and lord for 2 centuries would give you a lot of insight into Astarion’s mind. Cazador probably would either try a replacement or play his cards exactly to bring Astarion back. But he probably did not expect Astarion to have made friends and bring companions with him who’d fight to kick his vampire ass.
