MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW.

I'm in the last fight and have figured it out to the point where I get the elder brain down to below 50hp. Basically one turn away from death. But before I get a chance to act, all sorts of quick cutscenes occur, a nautiloid shows up, and I get the "Your party has died. Load new game." message. HUH?

Steps I took to get there:
- Summon all my allies.
- Focus attacks on the Emperor. Kill him.
- Haste/Misty Step/Fly to get everyone to the portal.
- Use stones on portal. OPen it up. Move party inside while summoned allies deal with Mind Flayers and dragon.
- Move to brain, attack.
- First round of attacks gets it to about 50hp.
- Party wipe.

I'm missing something obvious but after three attempts, I'm not seeing it. Any advice?

Are you moving your party out of Negation Blast? He makes one big shiny orb that will blow up the entire platforms nearby and mark allies affected within its aura. You are probably taking too long in the final fight as well if a Nautiloid is dropping reinforcements, the Emperor and Dragon should be dead by the first 2 turns and the other mindflayers should die by turn 3. while your Illithid is channeling the Netherstones on the portal.

It has to be the negation blast thing. My last attempt was extremely fast in getting to the brain. I killed the Emperor then ignored everything else, just focusing on getting my party into the portal. But it was a complete party wipe on the Brain's second round.

Main character got there first, and hit with 3 attacks (hasted), Shadowheart got there next and just healed. Lae'zel got in that same round and Got 3-4 ranged attacks. Gale was still a ways out.

Next turn, main got a SA, regular attack, and offhand attack. Shadowheart missed. Lae'zel got 6 melee attacks. Brain was at 58hp.

Then we were all dead. It was that fast.

That's simply not true, not even on Tactician. I was in that fight for ages just for the lulz, been camping spawns from the nautiloid for many rounds with all my allies summoned. I've been there for over 10 rounds, it has nothing to do with what happens inside the portal.

Once inside my Avatar just wrecked the brain, all I needed was for Gale to Misty Step, get into the portal and cast a level 5 Magic Missile with the +dmg gloves.

Yes, you can take your time and wipe the entire battlefield outside if you want. You can even go to sleep with potion of angelic reprieve while your allies deal with whatever spawns if you need some new spell slots before going inside to deal with the brain.
