1/ At least for me, self control has nothing to do with this. The problem arises when you like both equally :

- playing a game, living with the consequences of your actions ;
- getting the best outcome of a situation.

As you like both equally, you can't decide what you want more during each dice roll. So you want an option in game to remove the choice, so you can enjoy playing the game "with consequences" fully.

I agree with this.

I'd love to see a mode that doesn't allow for save scumming.

It's called "ironman" mode, and better used for XCOM than this sort of game.
