This is true. On the other hand, I actually think BG2 really outdoes BG3 in some aspects, when it comes to characters. First is the romance stories, they just seem like they follow a more coherent arc and actually involve character development in BG2. Second is the inter-character interaction (as in, party members interacting with each other but not with the MC).

And also for example *gasp* you have to NOT have sex with Aerie (offscreen of course) at some point - or the romance ends !
