With reasoning ut sound like almost all games games would be like 6-8 with some occasional 5's and 9's. That scale just does't make sense to me. Why shouldn't you be able to use the whole scale?

A 10/10 does not mean perfect or close to perfect. That game doesn't exist. Game development is extremely complex and it is impossible to make a perfect game, especially in a game of this size and this amount of content. 10/10 is for the few best AAA games in every genre. A master price. 1 / 10 is harder to define, but should be reserved for the absolute worst and unplayable games. 5 / 10 should be decent but quite meh.

I haven't got to Act 3 yet, but so far, this is one of my favourite games ever together with Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Planescape: Torment and Witcher 3. SO it is an easy 10/10 for me so far. It has to be really bad in act 3 to drop down to even a 9. I also think there will be more and more patches that fixes the problems in act 3.

Are people too proud to turn the settings down a notch?

Complaints isn't about performance, its unfinished content.
There were actually performance complains. I didn't encounter any problems myself though. I had one or two instances with a lot of NPCs, where the performance dropped a little bit, but nothing serious.

Do any of you play on high refresh rate monitors? I'm using a GTX 3090 and definitely observed some performance dips in Act 3. While I average around 265 fps, any drop in fps is still noticeable and slightly impacts the smoothness of my gaming experience.

Even before act 3 a 10/10 is not justified; not with the bugs present early on (they do not show up only in act 3) and odd plot inconsistencies that show up early. Even if you want to argue that a 10/10 should not mean a flawless game, but rather just a game that is better than anything else available, BG3 is simply not that. And it is especially not justified after act 2 and 3 are taken into account. People giving this game a perfect score is a function of the hype this game received.

A 10/10 literally means perfect, doesn't get any better than this and should be reserved for timeless masterpieces with almost no bugs, performance issues, half finished content and so on. Apart from that I think, it is really hard to rate BG3 fairly. It is definitely one of the most ambitious and complex games I have seen in a while and simple things like "no micro transactions" can't be rated high enough these days.

If I just rate the fun I actually have with it (I'm still discovering stuff in act 1), it is easily a 9/10. If I look at the raw quality of later acts, narrative structure, plot holes, unfinished quests, missing content and so on, it is more a 6/10. You recognize most problems the game has only, when you play it multiple times and compare it to what triggers or not for other players.

After skimming through this thread, I have to ask, in addition to new content thoughts --- has anyone thought about the voice actors themselves?
I would love to see them all in interviews, talking about how they got into character, what they thought about their characters, working on the game... You know, the human interest side of them. Plus it would be great to see them actually recording some of the content. As a filmmaker and fan, I love this whole aspect and hope that Larian will see the benefit of creating real stars out of these folks. Which they are anyway to me.
Here's to all of your successes!

On second thought, I think I'll start a new thread for these people!

There are pretty extensive videos with the voice actors on YouTube e.g. 1h51m long video with Jennifer English

i'm using the same card. 18FPS for real. 265FPS is that even legit? mind posting your PC specs and also afterburner stats? what resolution you are on?

About to make a very unpopular comment.

A lot of the performance issues we see with BG3 and other RPGs can be faulted to Youtube hardware reviewers.

For years these reviewers have focused on GPUs for gaming and CPUs for work and have perpetuated a belief that the GPU is the end all item for a gaming rig. A PROPER gaming rig is balanced with the CPU, GPU RAM and storage all taken into account to create a gaming PC. Gaming is not about one component but rather the sum of it's parts.

Youtubers have focused on games that are GPU limited and real, deep RPG play gets a backseat if explored at all. Deep RPGs, especially CRPGs will not be as GPU heavy and even start leaning into the CPU a lot. This is where things break down... Gamers and Devs have seen tons of influencers pushing GPU as the be all end all of gaming and so put the focus there and this means gamers build with weaker CPUs and Devs optimize toward the GPU.

In the optimization arena, even now most games do not utilize more than 4 cores or so. This needs to be opened up, 6 core 12 thread processors are fairly common, instead of optimizing CPU performance to single or small thread counts, open those suckers up, let us use those 6 cores and 12 threads.

In the gamer area, we need to stop looking for how cheap we can do the CPU. A great gaming system, not built with wads of cash, is a balancing act where the sum of the parts matters more than the specific part. AMD at least is making an effort to give gamers a leg up with the X3D lineup.

Bad (but not entirely) news guys, the reason the voice actors were all in the same room isn't because they were recording new content. It was for a D&D internet show:
https://gamerant.com/baldurs-gate-3-voice-actors-dungeons-and-dragons-high-rollers/

Granted, that's awesome and we should all tune in cause it sounds like a lot of fun!

But I had a feeling it was too soon for Larian to be calling back the voice actors yet. If they really want to fix Act 3 and the endings, they're going to have to take great care in writing them first so, maybe this is a good sign. But either way, I was excited for the possibilities when that video was posted too.

Here's hoping we get an update from Larian about more content soon!

If Larian wanted to record new voice content they wouldn’t get all of the actors into one room at he same time because that’s not how voice work is recorded.

High Rollers dnd posted another short on their channel from the VA game. Event games like this they usually pre-record then simultaneously upload on both youtube and twitch.

While you're there, don't be afraid to check out their other actual-play dnd series, they just wrapped up their latest campaign a few weeks ago. I've been following them for many years and seen their ups and downs and the growth of their channel.

I'll definitely be tuning in. Watching Astarion's VA play Baldur's Gate has been a serious highlight and so I can't wait to see them all do something together!
