It seems to be running fine now, I've quickly loaded the game to see if anything had changed and swapping characters is not freezing the game at all and the summons are instantaneous without any kind of lag, gotta check how the game runs during combat.

What I find weird is that Larian has not addressed this issue directly in the patch notes, just some optimization notes that they improved performance to reach FPS. But well, I'm happy that is running great again, finally I can get back to play the game.

Ok we just loaded up after the update. in splitscreen one of us tried summoning a familiar at camp (which usually freezes the whole game for 10 seconds) and it didnt happen!

Hopefully the cursor/target disappearing bug is fixed too. We’ll test to see if this holds up when online too later tonight (the two of us play splitscreen+online multiplayer with a friend). Fingers crossed, but so far encouraging!!

“Fixed the controller cursor sometimes not appearing if your character was the target of a non-attacking spell (e.g. in Jannath's Estate).”

Is that referring to the annoying bug with the cursor/target disappearing which makes you unable to move?

That's good to hear! I mean, they did mention they optimized a few things on the patch notes and that might be related to our couch co-op issues! Unfortunately we're past the worst in Act 3 so I am looking forward at seeing other confirming the issue got better.

We’re about 30ish hours still in Act 1 (where the lag/freezing was unbearable before) and had zero lag or freezing when summoning when we used to have 10-15 second freeze 0fps. Havent had a chance to test further than that yet, but seems to be fixed on first look!

The patch notes are massive & I tried to avoid spoilers: did they add a merged split screen for combat as well to reduce issues and/or dynamic while travelling around?

No, I don't think they did, at least based on patch notes. Though I didn't see mention of the split-screen delay issue being fixed either. Not a single acknowledgement that it was ever an issue. I mean it was bad enough that they probably didn't want to draw attention to it.

I should add, they did add an option to have players automatically 'listen' to conversations started in split screen, which will be welcome on my end.

Fights are quite long, maybe for those who have 3 controllers (less hassle), one can be supportive and once long fight starts second player could quit and you would continue turn based full screen fight..haven't tried but in theory..

Well, probably because what caused the issue was lack of optimization on many things which wasn't exclusive to PS5? There are many items under the PERFORMANCE AND OPTIMISATION section that seems related. Such as "Optimised turn order calculations in combat". The game is basically running turns every 6 seconds and even when you aren't in combat is calculating A LOT of things. We all just happen to be using the same processor.

In addition, in my perception I don't think merged split screen will be added so soon because on how they implemented a few things that are different from Divinity 2. In Divinity 2 couch co-op, during combat you would never be able to have two characters acting/moving at the same time (and I don't know why they went for this, considering how the AI bugs when they are trying to go to/pass through the same place and that you can't take turns at the same time during 5ed).

Confirmed with my wife it's fixed today after patch. Totally unplayable before, no lag at all now. Seems really solid.

Fingers crossed it stays good, but if it's really fixed then THANK YOU LARIAN!!!

I think it would be good to acknowledge this issue more directly given how gamebreaking it was for splitscreen players. Many have already given up and we need to celebrate this fix in the official notes!
