I agree that imperfect people can have amazing abilities. I imagine everyone here has problems of different varieties and degrees, but there are things they can do that others couldn't hope to.
I can be humourous about death. It's pain I have a problem with. If he made some quip about both kids being dead, I may have found it a bit funnier (only in a joke context, of course).
