His inclusion in the story sends the already fairly shaky story line of the game screaming into the wall head first at mach 1. Almost every aspect of his place in the story, his background, and his character makes you stop engaging with the story to say, "Wait, but, what?"

Just the fact that they had to change Balduran's - an already established character, with their own storied history in the lore - race from human to elf to try (and fail) at making the story's timeline make slightly more sense should've been a red flag for the writers that he isn't working the way they wrote him.
