Hey everybody! This is my first post! Some of you may know me from the Morrowind forums, but for those who don't: greetings!
I've just finished the game half an hour ago, and if you don't mind, my thoughts:
1. Overall, fabulous game
Yes indeed. Despite the slight repetitiveness it never got boring, from the catacombs under Mardaneus' house to the Stronghold under the lake.
2. Killing the Demon of Lies was way too easy
I agree on this one too. In the end, my character was able to walk up to the Demon and simply hack away and soak up the damage of both the Demon and his pets (inculding his 'duplicate'), with a few Restorations taking care of healing. By the time the Demon fell, six or more bad'uns were hacking away at me, while I stood in the middle of a conflagration, and I didn't even notice.
When you get transported to the land of Orcs, it would have been nice to have been able to go back
This one, I disagree on. Aleroth, Verdistis and all the other regions were a closed chapter then. The fact that you can't return to what was familiar adds to the desolateness of the region.
4. Now my game is over...not sure I'll play again from scratch.
Me neither. In fact, even though it was a lotta fun, I don't think I'll play again. Not in the near future anyway.
5. I thought the game was a bit short
Really? I thought it got just a little bit longwinded in the end - not necessarily the game itself, but it was just a bit too much hack 'n' slash in the end.
6. Overall, I thought there were too few tactical challenges
I see what you mean. Most of the fights were simply hackin' away. The other fights (Josephina for instance - damn, what a hateful b****) were gulpin' potions, casting Blesses and hoping not to be blinded.
7. I think the open areas in the wilderness should have re-populated with monsters over time.
Don't know about that. Having to fight all those silly Orcs again whenever you have to pass through the wilderness gets boring.
8. I automatically had the entire labyrinth map available
Can't remember that...
9. I had considerable instability problems with the game
That's odd. I never had a single CTD (yes I am truly blessed - if only Call to Power and Morrowind would stop crashing too)
10. it would have been neat if NPCs might have joined up with you
I don't know. Controlling two party members in real time is hard to implement. Either you have a useless slacker who gets killed all the time tagging along, or you have the Fallout-syndrome: NPCs who keep shooting you in the back by accident. I think Divine Divinity is too fast-paced to add party members.
11. I did notice, but not use, some hacking utilities being made available.
Yeah, that's a shame. But hey, if people want to ruin their own game, it's their choice...
Personally, I don't see why everybody wants Multiplayer so bad. I still prefer a good Single-Player experience personally (no crude jokes, please <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> )
13. If there was a campaign editor for DD, the game would never die -
True again. Look at Morrowind and its mods. It's getting old now, but it's still going strong.
Damn right!!
