Title kinda says it all about the topic.
Hirelings were supposed to be an alternative to multiplayer custom parties, but now just feel like you're stuck with the most unappealing and bland randomized characters.
At least we got ability to dismiss multiplayer PCs at will. But I haven't tested if you can have a custom character join your party mid playthrough.
