The insistence on not letting people create and customize their own hirelings is some major fun police stuff. I genuinely don't get it. Okay, so you don't want to have people make a party of clown looking halflings. Why, exactly? Who's experience am I ruining in my single-player run through? Even more so if I've already done the companion storylines multiple times, and just want to do a goofy challenge run.
Just bizarre.
