Where did you get that from? There is no connection between the ox and Dammon in Act 1. Even in Act 2 he will die only if he joins you in the fight against the ox and the ox kills him.
Fair enough, then I was misinformed. Never tried it myself. I just heard that the Ox supposedly helps them into act 2.
