We Halflings are a proud and capable race. We take healthy lifestyle choices seriously, like diet and exercise.
Our propensity for aerobics should be reflected in more than just our hairy feet.

Most races in BG3 get to choose from two physique options.
It's unfortunate that Halflings, really all the short races, are forced into a particular, negative, body image.
Just look at Lord of the Rings, those were some alright looking fellas!

But what I really wish for are some new face options.
Generally the races all get fairly neutral choices.
The male halfling faces are all pretty damn ugly, let's just be honest.

And the worst part is- one of the facial options is forced to have scars!
Why do you give us the choice to place scars on a characters face, but then force it onto a base template! That makes no sense!

Please give us some different halfling face options...
I'll take not being able to look fit, just... don't show it in the face too. C'mon!

You can spare me the discrepancies between hobbits, and the suggestion to just mod. That's not what this is about.

Um.

Its Elves and Drow who get two physique options.

Which are by the way exactly the same two options. After all, the difference between Elves and Drow is merely the colors.

Literally nobody else gets two options.

If thats "most races" to you, well, I'd have to disagree.

I'd have to assume you talk about the movies. Those Halflings have literally been regular people, only downsized.

I'm referring to the "Body Type" options, basically you can choose to make certain races scrawnier or buff.

And that's odd- I sincerely thought that Githyanki, Half-Orc & Dragonborn were included in the list of races eligible for buffer physiques. I must have remembered that wrong. And it is sort of odd, since those are the races you would most imagine having access to that feature.
Still, 5 out of 12 is nearly half.

Dwarves Gnomes & female Halflings all generally look neutral, like the other races, which means they lend themselves well to varying adjustments based on the cosmetic options.
The male halfling options, however, are all squat, portly and generally unbecoming- sunken chins, all around obtrusive features. There's no getting away from it.

It feels like fat shaming in reverse.

As for your second comment, I don't really get your point. Gimli was a regular person too only downsized.
I'm not sure how that correlates with the fact that In BG3, most of the race templates are generally pretty neutral and malleable, except for male Halflings, which seem to be pigeonholed by a certain typecast.
Again- even with Dwarves, Gnomes & Female Halflings, the options allow for a good bit of variety.
Male Halflings are extremely one note. But it's still the race I want to play.
And since I'm going to be staring at the face for hundreds of hours... It would be nice to have options.

*edit*

But what really set it over for me is the fact that one of the options is forced to have scars, I mean what the heck! Why give us the option to include scars and then force a whole template to have them too?? All other races get 6 options but that basically means male halflings only get 5... or this arbitrarily scarred up guy.

My male Halfling looks great. I have complained before that you get like on average only one good face per race and gender. But male Halflings get one such face, too.

And again I dont get your maths.

There are 11 races - Human, Half-Elf, Elf, Drow, Half-Orc, Dwarf, Gnome, Halfling, Tiefling, Githyanki, Dragonborn.

Of these 11, only Elf and Drow get choices between two physiques.

Thats 2 out of 11, not 5 out of 11.

Actually, Halycon, Binx is correct - it's 5 of 11: Elf, Tiefling, Drow, Human and Half-elf all have alternate physique options, while Githyanki, Dragoborn, Half-orc, Gnome, Halfling and Dwarf do not.

Among those dragonborn also gotta choose between buff (which I think is the standard human male phenotype but for a female dragonborn) and very buff which is the musclebound large phenotype.

I agree Halflings are all a bit plump whereas Gnomes seem to be mostly pretty trim, if a little more gangly in the arms. If you want a rail thin Halfling necromancer or a shredded Halfling barbarian the best you got is maybe some clothing or armor that can play that up, but for the faces there's not much.

I think more people would play this race if they had more options in the look.

Also, good to see you back Niara! A thread about Halflings doesn't feel the same without you! Hope your Summer swinging into Autumn has been going well!

Shhh, you saw nothing, I'm just lurking..... but a thread about the injustices to halflings was a little bit of kryptonite...

I'm doing okay, more or less. Trying to find time to actually play the game, amongst other life things - once I have I'll be more equipped to give retrospectives and commentaries again... not yet though.

But thank you for the greeting ^.^ I do appreciate it.

Hey! Thank you for your gracious willingness to humor me! Nothing beats acceptance after screaming into the void- real standup behavior!
That goes for all the good natured folks in the chat! Can't remember the last time I visited a forum that didn't devolve straight into flames, and I came out swinging.

I'll... Make it work. I know it's awfully petty, but what can I say, stylistic choices really do make all the difference for me.
And I can't help that it brings me back to past campaigns, quietly imploring the dm if we can reskin the gnome wizard and call it a halfling, haha.
The guy wants what he wants.

I dropped you Pm on the topic, Binx, but if you'd like to see a thread where the majority do actually feel similarly and agree that the models for halflings aren't great and have been done an injustice, there was a thread that ran much of the length of the EA, where a great many people voiced the desire for improvement - it's here: Focused Feedback: Halflings

Hello! I come to drop my own coment on this topic in hopes that the thread will be noticed and the issues here will get looked at.

I agree that male halflings need better customisation options. Adding a diferent body type for smaller races would help in my opinion, maybe give the halflings the option to chose a body tipe more like the ones that gnomes have and give the gnomes the option to pick a halfling body while we're at it. I think more options are always better and it's not all that hard to implement, these bodies are roughly the same size and are already in the game.

When it comes to faces it's just about adding more options. ''Good looking'' ones would probably make halflings more popular.
