Imo best thing they can do now is to just fix story and technical bugs and support modding as good as they can. While modders continue to come up with great stuff they should take their time to finish the late game main story / ending / epilogue instead of rushing changes or improvements of existing stuff. Later on, with renewed ownership, they could compile a definite edition with a more satisfying ending and maybe some of the great additions provided by the community.
