I think cats smarter than dogs - they train us, not us train them... Which isen't totally true either...but as Kiya said, we are their servants.

And, anyone who thinks they are aloof, not caring ect, should try owning one (or 3!!!!)

Cats are cute, and you never really know what they will do next. With dogs... they are always waiting for you to tell them what to do next. So probably dog-lovers just want poor slaves that they cann order around
Another bad thing with dogs: the smaller they are, the more and louder they bark (in german I always say "je kleiner desto klöff"). Probably some inferiority complex.

I can't believe you ppl...

So guidedogs for the blind are stupid, eh?
Dogs who are trained to find ppl under buildings after an earthquake or so are stupid?
Police- and other guarddogs are stupid?
Drugdogs/Snifdogs are stupid?
...

Every year dozens of dogs get hurt or die while they are trying to and are saving humans.

Dogs are great creatures. But it's humans who take adventage of them and (ab)use them.
Dogs sure do have minds of their own. They just had the misfortune of being to freindly and running into the most dominating creature on earth.

No body said they were stupid (well at least i didn't)
Just people often say bad things about cats - and i know i had to defend them...
I like both...and cats are intellegant as well, juyst in their own way.

I know for a fact that a lot of dogs aren't slaves.
Some dogs kinda are becouse they try to do right but for their owners it's never good enough. So you get a poor doggie, scared of everything and without a personality.

On the other hand you have ppl who take to good care of their pets. They mean well, but it's just as bad for the qualities and personality of the dog.

Most ppl just dunno enough about their pets to keep a pet.

There is no such thing as bad pets, just bad owners...

Don't treat them well, don't train them right or whatever, and then get mad at the pet.

Yes, I agree highly - it always makes me mad to see people complain about pets and not realise they are in charge and have the responsibility. In fact I have known cats/dogs/rats/other pets that taught me quite a lot and surprised me with their high social concern and learning ability.

I treat them with respect and try to find out more about their uniqueness and personality - every pet is special, it just takes some time and patience to find out what

Nope, Jurak - this dog is not stupid but in need of a hot bath, a fluffy towel and a lot of cuddling to make up for this torture. Binx needs a better master, why didn't YOU get muddy and wet?

Do you think this Retriever would have fun in the tub? Maybe he's looking so woebegone cause he knows what's coming next - no, I still recommend a wet and muddy Jurak with a dry and fluffy dog, safely wrapped in his best suit

right on, carrie. that's why i get so mad when i read about some poor dog that had to be put down because it bit some stupid kid who was beating it with a stick. in those cases, nearly always the dog was being aggravated.

i also saw an animal cops show where some guy was arrested for burning off all his cat's whiskers. he did this by holding the cat's head down over the stove. he couldn't understand why he was being arrested, and kept saying "but i didn't do anything!" apparently, holding the cat's head over the stove was a punishment because the cat did something he didn't like. which i'm sure, had he known enough to watch his cat's behavior, he could have prevented.

Did the cops by any means hold the man's hair over the stove?
- or other body parts? some seem to learn if they experience on their own body what harm causes.

Ahhhh yes
it's the pic of me, that you cannot see...
for i am dirtier than my little doggie

oh and he love's to get wet....and swim....well lets just say when it come time to go home......you just try and get him to come out of the water!

he needs to be bribed with this.... liver snacks....
now we can tell Seth we have finally found a use for all that liver nobody's eating!!

and this for you "other" non-doggie lovers....

A Dog's Prayer Treat me kindly, my beloved master,
for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness,
than the loving heart of me.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick
your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding
will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweet music,
as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your
footstep falls upon my ear.
When it is cold and wet, please take me inside
for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements
and I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet
beside the hearth though had you no home, I would rather follow you
through ice and snow, than rest upon the softest pillow
in the warmest home in all the land for you are my god
and I am your devoted worshipper.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water,
for although I should not reproach you were it dry,
I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.
Feed me clean food that I may stay well, to romp and play
and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing,
and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.
And beloved master, should the Great Master see fit
to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you.
Rather, hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me
the merciful boon of eternal rest and I will leave you knowing
with the last breath I draw, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

homemade treats, jurak!

the first time i read that poem, it was right after we had put down my first dog, the one i grew up with. (he was old, 15.) i cut it out of the newspaper, and i still have it, but it's all wrinkled and yellow.

Really, that poem is sad/sappy...

And about the cat. I would never even think of doing anything like that. Hey, my cat gets a smack on the bum (not hard)- and is told NO when she does something bad...but never would i harm her. She usually just needs the no anyway, and knows she has done something wrong.

I really wish there was more we could do for creatures that are abused, and then put down becasue they defended themselves.

You okay Faile? I still can hardly talk about my first cat without crying...
