Yet that character I grew to enjoy so much just diminished post Shadowfell. There was no more of this wise aged Druid who knew what he wanted and stuck to his morals while also caring for others and their wants/needs.
I'd argue that he's still there - it's just that he's mostly only there outside of romance-related stuff. If you just turn him down quickly but gently (and aren't romancing Shadowheart, and don't bring him along on brothel-related activities), I think his character remains strong and consistent. It's also not so bad if you're the type who does want to double up with him and Astarion or Shadowheart.
As I said elsewhere, I still love him, he's always a welcome part of my group. I'm even willing to romance him again... now that I've got some good headcanon to work with and some definite ideas about which dialogue choices/places to avoid.
