I was having the same issue i managed to get past it by setting game to easy used dimension door to get in as fast as possible then used polymorph so the rest of the team could dash in and used everything i could to kill it in one turn make sure to use a strong character to push him out of the acid as well if need be

I cannot save Dammon even with 2 old saves as the jelly just ignores me, I can't even target the thing.

We were able to save our file from complete disaster through the perseverance of my fiancé. After 2 hours of restarting our single save file, we got lucky. This required the Ox to miss its fatal shot at the blacksmith. Then we did an Ice knife on the Ooze, and knocked it prone. After many times of the Ooze not getting pulled into initiative, it finally happened. The Ooze was third after our Barbarian and Bard. The Bard did Thunderwave to the Ox, while the Barbarian shot it with arrows. They both had their turns before the blacksmith as well. They blocked his path to the stable by standing in front of it. The blacksmith proceeded to take the long way around. By the time he arrived to try to be an Adventurer, the Ox safely dead. Our file is intact, all we lost was the Ox.

Same issue here. Have a save from before patch 3, inside the Last Light Inn right in front of Jaheira. Already talked to Dammon and the Strange Ox and progressed Karlach's quest. When going outside the building, the Ox transforms and kills Dammon. I want both alive!

Thank you so much for posting this! This fixed it for me on all my saves. For some reason the empty Mod folder was causing our strange friend to break horribly. Time to Slay Ketheric like the ox he is.

In case someone else also has this problem, I've discovered another possible fix: When you enter the cutscene with Jaheira, have a different character go back out and walk closer. I kept the forge in view the entire time (it will pull you back into the cutscene). After that, when I went to the forge, Dammon was alive and the Strange Ox only had half it's HP but was still an ox.

Please fix this Larian. Not only have I lost more than a day of progress on this, I effectively cannot continue. I am on dark urge playthrough and I am yet to be spoiled on the ox but I got a feeling it is related from the visions I get. So ideally I want to keep the ox alive to act 3. Also I am going for the save all tiefling achievement. So really, if the fix doesn't involve me reloading ALLLLL the way back to the beginning of Act 2, that will be most appreciated.

Can confirm I am also experiencing this bug if I go to Last Light the Ox goes on a rampage that ignores turn based combat and kills Dammon.
This leaves my options as: 1.) Lose both Ox (who I don't know if he'll be relevant later) and Dammon 2.) Try some janky hail mary to save dammon but still lose Ox 3.) Avoid Last Light entirely which is extremely difficult being smack in the middle of act 2. (Random aside I tried to go to act 1 to vendor and Halsin just straight up left my party)
All of these are pretty undesirable I'd like both npcs alive for later content. This bug coupled with the save bug leave me pretty much unable to play the game until a hotfix is released.

So I managed to get around it. I had to keep reloading a save until it missed its attack against him and I could get close enough to shoot an arrow at it. One I hit it, it entered turn based mode and I did everything in my power to kill that MF before it could kill him.

I just reloaded a save from Act 2 when I had just crossed the bridge and went through the Harper showdown outside Last Light Inn. My save is vanilla with no mods, and the Ox did not rampage. I talked to both Dammon (for the first time since Act 1) and the Strange Ox without confrontation. Also tested a save right before part 1 of the Ketheric Thorm fight, went to the Inn and nothing happened. Maybe its a mod thing?

Just got an email back from Larian after I submitted a bug report and they stated this is "a known issue" and to look for an upcoming hotfix.

I just played through the last light inn and it went entirely normal for me. I don't use any mods.

It's not mods. I removed all my mods, reloaded a save before the dialogue to enter the Inn, and the combat begins immediately after dialogue.

Just fyi it is not yet fixed. It is not mentioned in the hotfix from today anyway, but I retested regardless to be sure.

It's not mods. I removed all my mods, reloaded a save before the dialogue to enter the Inn, and the combat begins immediately after dialogue. I don't think it's always as simple as removing all mods. Things can still be left behind which impact the game. * Anyway, as I have a completely vanilla game that has never had any mods, it's not happening to me. My question is, if it's not mods, why isn't it happening in my game? I'm not asking to "checkmate" an argument. It's a legitimate question. I sincerely believe this is a mod issue, and I accept that I may be wrong.

I sincerely believe this is a mod issue, and I accept that I may be wrong. You are 100% wrong. It happens on PS5 too. It may relate to when/if you talked to the Ox previously or the trigger might be something completely unrelated. My question is, if it's not mods, why isn't it happening in my game? Because you didn't trigger the bug? Bugs are rarely universal. They have specific triggers.
