SO I finally finished a playthrough, and I chose the ending that me and Minthara were planning all along (it was even in my journal): dominate the brain for ourselves.
But the end cinematic was so dissatisfying, I wonder if this was the "good" ending for Minthara. It looked like I mind controlled everyone, even Minthara.
I loaded back the game before I made this choice, and chose to destroy the brain. Now I got a way longer ending, and even Minthara was in it, saying this was the best outcome, that we were going to conquer the underdark together.
Isn't this a bit weird? She literally said to me: don't destroy it, bend it to your will! right before the killing blow on the boss. The game is working you towards dominating the brain if you romance Minthara, but that ending is actually quite awful for her, as she ends up being mind controlled yet again. Also that ending was very dissastisfying, you just get a shot of your party on top of the and that's it? Is it a bug where something else isn't triggered correctly or is this the way it is intended?

As it stands, this is all there's to it. They're allegedly going to work on polishing up the endings. Right now, there's essentially only (ending variation spoilers) two endings with different variations between them. You control the Netherbrain and mind control everyone else, whether you do it for yourself or for Bhaal (Dark Urge). The only other variation to this is that you, similar to the Minthara situation, control the brain 'together' with the Emperor, but it's just the same cutscene except the Emperor will sit on the throne instead and say "In my name", meaning you're basically just his thrall. The other ending is where you blast the brain, be it with Gale's bomb or having the Emperor/Orpheus/Karlach/you do it as mind flayers. This will trigger the short sendoff for some of the companions you still have, while others are excluded (Shadowheart, Minsc, Jaheira, Halsin, maybe Minthara, while Wyll seems tied to Karlach). Unless you kill yourself (mind flayer or Bhaalspawn) before these sendoffs, at which point it just fades to credits anyway. It's a common complaint so it'll likely get polished, but expect it to take some time and how drastically it'll change is still to be seen.
