Well, my Tav was a barbarian, so they went as a very destructive duo, however gameplay-wise that only gets one so far. Logically, since Karlach is a barbarian, I think she'd really benefit from a support class. Perfect if they can heal. Playing a tank myself I can sponge only so much damage (although admittedly a lot of it) before it would be cool for someone to patch me up. Then again, if we're taking potions into account, being two tanks and very hard to kill does not sound that bad. (I pretty much carried the whole game by thinking everyone's perks into constitution and making my whole party hard to kill, so that's... a strategy for sure)

So, uh, either someone with support abilities (cleric, definitely, I'm not very familiar with paladin's abilities), or someone who's equally hard to knock down, I'd say.

(Come to think of it, druid also sounds like a fun choice. Pretty sure I remember Jaheira healing, so that's on the table, but the wildshape can also do significant damage. Gonna be tough in Avernus though, not a lot of green around.)
