There is another permanent light source you can try but it will take some mystery out of the game:
Use your Moon Lantern in the item window and you will be able to converse with the Pixie inside. Free that pixie and she will give you a permanent aura that dispels the shadow curse in all areas of the map and you don't need to carry the lantern anymore. As an aside, doing this also helps with an Act 3 side mission.
