Larian has basically given every class a way to play them sinister.
Even the paladin has a hidden special class to become a dark warrior.

You can also tie it to the race very well if it doesn't quite fit the class, like with the bard or barbarian.

Otherwise, all predefined evil classes in fantasy RPGs are the first choice for an evil story path.
Evil priest, necro, shadow knight ala oathbreaker, assassin.
With the Ranger, you have the dark Stalker, which by the way is pretty intense.
I have loaded a MOD where my team mats fight with AI.
I made Lae'zel a dark stalker and she's a blast in melee and ranged in combination. She already knocks down a few enemies at the start of the fight all by herself and thanks to fog step and sneak, she is also very agile on the move... you can't get her dead that easily...

I myself have played with a half-darkelf as an evil druid as a caster. Has also worked well.
Warlock also works very well.
But then I started the warlock again as a cunning fairy warlock, because I wanted to charm and confuse more so enemies and give in the world the state of a somewhat cunning, but not too evil character. Just like a shady fairy escaped from the fairy realm. That works really well, too.
