I don't really get why people say this. Like yes of course you can reload and do things differently, but it is perfectly reasonable to express some level of disappointment. It is a storybased game focused on choice, so when a choice doesn't seem to have a thought-out conclusion
a la quashing Gortash's Coronation
people can be bummed.
Personally I think that there are definitely signs that Gortash was meant to be able to be foiled productively at the scene of the coronation. In Act 2 there is the Isobel ambush which at the time is a tough fight that if failed leads to a lot of character deaths. Similar to that, if Gortash isn't stopped before leaving for the lower city then all of the Patriars and their guards get slaughtered (not that they do anything but their deaths might give the impression that they do). Additionally when you return to confront Gortash for real then you can find a lot of notes going over how he turned over the Patriars to support him that might enforce the feeling of something more.
I think I know part of why it is like this though and it has to do with Wyll's personal quest. It similarly breaks if you happen to do the Balduran Trials early (which is totally possible without foreknowledge if you send a druid in a tiny form through a pipe outside Wyrmrock that puts you directly after the torch puzzle). After defeating Ansur, Wyll's dialogue will just sorta be locked into opening about how the party should meet up with his father in camp.
