Oh man...
So I've now beat the game twice.
First, I saved the city, romanced Astarion, he stayed as a spawn, and I got that god-awful mocking scene with him burning in the sun and everyone doing nothing about it. Then the annoying one-liners that mean nothing- roll credits.
I had heard that the Durge playthrough was interesting and that Ascended Astarion got more dialogue. So I decided to combine them and go evil to explore different choices.
Was interesting till Act 3, as per usual, but I was thinking like, "at least I'll get a different ending" and I pushed through it.
Well, I took over the brain after betraying The Emperor and I swear to gods, I thought my game glitched with how quickly it ends. I'm on my throne and *BLIP* *credits roll*
...what? That's it? Yay Bhaal's happy and...yeah?
So I was mad I got nothing from all my efforts, so I reloaded. Did the whole fight again and chose this time to kill the brain.
Well this time, I got the dock scene. I was expecting no less than what I got last time which was already kind of bad but at least I get some time to talk to my romance after? Maybe? But no...
If you didn't resist your Urge up until that point, you still get a blip of dialogue from people but then your eyes go red, there's a small thing about you saving the city, and then credits roll...again.
No romance conversation, nothing from Shadowheart or Minthara or Astarion just...nothing.
I'm lead to believe that you get SOMETHING if you resist Bhaal and I have a save I can reload to experience that but honestly? Why bother?
I've now seen 3 iterations of the ending of the game and everything is just so. Damn. Unsatisfying.
How in the world did they think endings where no one says anything meaningful, no options to talk to your companions or romance, no final goodbye or "what are your plans now?", no explanation on your affect on the city other than "you're heroes now" like...it just screams while they were writing this up that someone in the room was like "WRAP IT UP! WE NEED THIS GAME TO END!"
So sad...so disappointing.
You've had some of the best characters from a game I've seen in years. You had the potential to be the best game I've ever played. Why why why....
