Found a reddit thread on the same topic, a user there suggested clicking the settings icon in the bottom left, changing the language in the drop down box, then changing it back to your preferred language and hitting Save.
This somehow makes the launcher retry loading its main page and fixes the 'blank launcher' situation.
What a weird bug!
