On one hand I can see karlach’s avernus ending being a perfect set up for dlc, but as it is most of the others are so abrupt that it would feel like they just… chopped off the ending altogether to sell to you later.

Karlach's Avernus ending felt exactly like that. Before the cutscene was added, choosing that option literally cut to black. It wasn't a "new" ending like it's being erroneously portrayed everywhere. It was an existing ending that had a cutscene put in where it should've been. I imagine it's the same for some of the other more abrupt endings (even if they don't literally cut to black).

Edit: When people either genuinely or condescendingly ask fans of Karlach like me "Aren't you satisfied that you got this? Why are you asking for more?" My answer is no.

While I admire the quick work and appreciate the grueling effort it must've taken, that's not what we asked for -- that's something that clearly should've been there at launch. Other characters are also lacking in this regard, and if (or when) they get more fleshed-out conclusions, you shouldn't take it as a gift. Plenty of people praised Larian for delivering what other studios couldn't -- a complete product on release. They should earn that praise.
