As most people have been saying here, tragic endings are fine, great even, but the ending we've been handed in Bg3 is not what we're disatisfied with.
We're disatisfied because it feels cut and prompt, and quite frankly, poorly executed.
In my honest opionion, it felt like a lot was somehow missing in act 3. Quests and other small things just didn't add up or felt rushed and almost like "oh... oh, so that was it?"
I don't know... Act 3 feels abrupt and "tidied up" in a hasty sort of way. That's what - I for one - feel disappointed with.
That, and I wish there were more companion interaction throughout act 3 in particular. In comparison to act 1 and 2 it's almost dead quiet.

Don't get me wrong, Act 3 is still great but it doesn't hold up to Act 1 and 2.

Leaving endings open is one thing, but it could definitely be done even if we get more closure to our endings. I'm sure a grand tavern scene can play out fantastically even if a certain companion died along the way, for instance.

I'm sure a lot of this has to do with Upper city and Outer city being cut out of the game, at least in Karlach's case.
My bet has always been that they had to cut Upper and Outer city fairly close to launch - even though they might not have wanted or planned to do so - for either/both financial and time reasons, which would be understandable. Swen even did say at some point that they, kind of, had to round it off since Bg3 had been out in EA for far longer than they had initially anticipated. And the actors had been in the booths even on release week, so. It makes sense, really.

Here's to hoping that they will add it back ( to some degree ) in a Definite Edition.
And if not, then I hope we at least will be getting our much deserved ending, hopefully with a tavern scenario.
