Is this working as intended?

When you use the shriek ability of Phalar Aluve, it gives you an extra d8 thunder damage to attacks. This damage stacks with every magic missile. So, if you're using the magic missile amulet and upcasting magic missile... that's a lot of damage stacking together.

*

Another example would be Scorching Ray. Let's say you're a red draconic sorcerer wearing potent robes along with something like the callous glow ring, and then you upcast scorching ray (6th level) within the area of the shriek ability. Might as well add in a hex for good measure. I'm just spitballing here, right, but isn't that--assuming you hit, which isn't that hard--a combined damage total of 21d6 (3d6/ray) + 7d8 (thunder) + 70 (10/ray from 20 cha) + 14 (2/ray from ring)...

...which averages out to 189. Plus any other damage sources that can be squeezed in. And then we quicken it to double the damage, and then we can potentially haste to get more, albeit at a spell slot one level lower.

*

Again, is all of this stacking working as intended?

I'm sure there are better examples than the ones I'm providing off the top of my head.

I really hope something gets done with the difficulty level of this game. Right now, it feels like you can stumble into dealing massive levels of damage without even trying.

I don't know if it work as intended or not but it is clearly broken and fun !
(it gives a D4 thunder damage though, not D8).

Same goes with the gloves that add 1D8 to your damage with a penality to your attack roll with spells (basically a sharpshooter/great weapon master feat for attack roll spells in gloves).
Those ones are clearly buggy as the damages apply with any spells even saving throw ones AND magic missile... but it is also applying to each ray with scorching ray.

And guess what ? The D8 from the gloves trigger the phalar aluve damages one more time / ray or missile.

You think that is a broken combo?

Yes, sure it is, but so is 2lvl tempest cleric with 10 lvls of storm sorc. You can wet a target and deal double electric/thunder damage to it. With haste you can 1st cast conjure water, 2nd upcast lightning bolt (or use Markoheshki to gain access to chain lightning) and then quick cast another lightning bolt. With amulet of the devout you can spend 2 channel divinity on destructive wrath to roll max amount of damage on both spells. Also, if you use Marko for chain lightning access, you can twin it too.

Phalar Aluve is just broken in of itself. It's pretty ridiculous on anything that can dish out a lot of hits in quick succession. Try pairing it with monks. Sheesh.

Yes, phalar aluve, the gloves and the wet condition are 3 broken things in the game among many others^^
