I find the mechanics of the looting system in this title exasperating, especially with a controller, but that's another thread. I want to tell a wee story here:

Shadowheart is dead. I killed her to save the Nightsong. I still get all the dialogue associated with her being alive, but let that pass.

I get to Baldur's Gate and kill Viconia, then enter the Sharran barracks. Nocturne is there, and refuses to talk to or trade with me. Well, at that point, I've exceeded my Sharran tolerance level, and my Barbarian gives her a good whack with the Blood of Lathander. She throws a few hissy fits but refuses to fight. She also refuses to take any damage...but let that go as well.

Finally, she's had enough! Does she fight back? No. Does she run away? No. Does she talk to me and beg for mercy...no, a thousand times no! She does what any servant of Shar would do hundreds of meters underground in the bowels of her most secret hideout: she summons the Flaming Fist.

Yes, the Flaming Fist skips over the tortured bodies in the entry, whisks past the dozens of Sharrans that I felled, and a single member confronts me in the Sharran barracks. I am a level 12 Barbarian/Cleric with three companions, but this is a devoted member of the Fist, and she's determined to take me in. I decide to risk combat against such a formidable adversary instead of shelling out 4 thousand gold...and, luckily, I am able to defeat her.

Now, and this captures the utter, complete and incontrovertible stupidity of looting in this game: I go to loot the Flaming Fist's body. Nocturne, who up until then had been playing the damsel in distress, blows a gasket and decides to take on my whole party. Apparently hitting her with a mace isn't enough to fire her up, but try and take a longsword off a dead body and she's all in!

I think if Larian wrote our laws, they would have mass murder as a misdemeanor, and looting as the greatest crime in all history. Don't touch those bodies people!

I laughed when I heard the Fire Fists had arrived. But actually yes, I was also very annoyed in the game when I killed enemies, and passers-by did not let me search them, and when there was a battle the surrounding people scattered, and then they come back.

I had somthing similar in the Wyrm's rock audience hall, after the foundry was destroyed. Upon entering, the nobles' bodygards attack. The nobles themselves (common 6HP people) run around scared hiding for their lives. After defeating all the guards, I leave the nobles be, as they are no threat. However when I get to loot one of the guards, these same nobles become menacing, so I had to dispatch them also.

This Happens in another places in the Game too like if yu Kill Nere..
(i advice to always take a Long Rest after go there to loot hin..)
becouse all the NPC in the area will leave if yu Long Rest and go Back to the Miconids colony and the Dueargar if yu did not kill then will leave too..
was the only way i find out to avoid...
(or just Cast any Spell like Darkness or stuff like that in the body and loot it this way;; becouse they will not see yu looting.)
this works to unlock doors too if yu ever need and cant go stealth
(in the Temple like the dude of the post says too.. if yu leave and go back there will have nobody anymore then yu can loot all yu want.)
same in the Middle of the City use the Darkness trick like i say.. It Just Works..
(yu can even do this to PickPocket if yu really want to not waste yur cash.)
want any other Trick or advice ? just ask me.. haha
after 11 games i bet i can help yu in some way.

I was in combat with Nere and disarmed him. When I picked his sword up during the fight, the deep gnomes stopped cowering and accused me of stealing, at which point they joined Nere in attacking me.

silly

That is a good (bad) one! I'm willing to make some allowance for the underlying rules leading to odd results in some situations, given I recognise that it's not reasonable for it all to be hand-crafted. but this sounds bad enough to be considered a bug (as do some of the other examples here). Surely, the deep gnomes shouldn't care if we nick the cult's or duergar's stuff, so it sounds as though there's an issue with the way the factions in Grymforge are defined. At least it's better than the deep gnomes becoming hostile when we use AoE spells in the Nere fight as they seemed to at some point in EA, but that's a low bar smile

Yes sometimes loots are not "lootabel" like the bodies you killed in fron of the foundry.

I find that I'm really forgiving of these type of bugs. The game is so large and complex, there's bound to be issues that slip between the cracks. So much good work has been done over the years of early access. We're left with what feels like fringe cases to me. Sure, it can be annoying at times, but there's so much that works right. I guess that's my feeling in a nutshell about these types of things.
