Often when I need to step in with the moderator hat on, it's in a situation where a person has decided to take matters into their own hands. They want to argue with all those they deem 'bad' instead of just quietly informing moderators and resisting the urge to smack back at them. They end up creating more drama, to a point where sometimes they themselves become the problem. Though let me be clear I'm not suggesting that's the case here.

However, there's almost never a reason to argue with someone over a video game online, without it being intrinsically stupid by both parties. It's a video game. Arguing over subjective opinions and differing priorities in what makes a game fun, trying to convince each other that their priority is more important than the other one's, is always a waste of time.

Also, arguing may put you in the crossfires -- and it seems to me that's generally what gets people in trouble on steam at a brief glance just now. This thread for example is at the opposite end of being about wokeism being good, and a commenter is banned for arguing against that. So if there was pro-anything going on, surely this person wouldn't have been banned for leaning more right.

I however, would've locked the thread entirely as soon as I saw it had I had moderator powers there - I don't think politics has any place in video games forums at all. It doesn't matter at all, play games have fun. People who want to talk politics can go find some politics-oriented forums.

Bit of a tangent there, but what I mean is.. Pick your fights. Most strangers online aren't worth it.

That actually makes alot of sense, thanks for giving your two cents from a moderators POV. Yes i can imagine its difficult to keep control over who said what, where lies the reason and all that to a point where its just easyer to keep strict to the rules. My blood pressure just boiled for a moment and then even more when i was the only one recieving a ban, not both of us.
