I would go with strength and take Ranger Knight at the start for heavy armour letting you dump dex to 10. 17 Str + hag gets you 18. Can go 14 or 16 wisdom to help your spells, especially if going full Ranger. The pet really needs you to go to 11 to become powerful.
You could go with Bears for a pair of tanky monsters to join you or the spider with a lot of webbing with you wearing the boots that keep you from being webbed while slaughtering webbed enemies.
