4 patches in and the Arcane Trickster's primary, unique trick - the Mage Hand Legerdemain - doesn't work as intended, and really hasn't been spoken about since its implementation.

This is...really kind of baffling to me, especially since the Rogue is only the 4th most popular class in the game behind the Warlock.

The Warlock. Whose Great Old One Subclass had a feature in tabletop that doesn't translate to a CRPG...

(Awakened Mind - Starting at 1st level, your alien knowledge gives you the ability to touch the minds of other creatures. You can telepathically speak to any creature you can see within 30 feet of you. You don't need to share a language with the creature for it to understand your telepathic utterances, but the creature must be able to understand at least one language.)

... and so was given a new subclass feature in the form of the awesome Mortal Reminder (Fear effect on crits)

So other than apathy about the Rogue, why hasn't the Arcane Trickster been fixed in this fashion? If MH Legerdemain won't translate, then give them a new feature?

What about something that's actually Rogue-ishly arcane?

- Take a leaf out of the GOOlock's book: Pilfer Magic - If the Arcane Trickster scores a Critical Hit, they restore a spell slot?
- Or go one better/more interesting: Spellthief - Once per short rest the AT can cast a scaled Counterspell that - if succesful - 'steals' (counterspells) an enemy spell and restores a spell slot.
- Change 'Magical Ambush' so that it ONLY works on spells from the Arcane Trickster list, but you can choose whether or not you cast the spell with an Advantage while hidden, or cast it as a Bonus Action?
- Magic Trick They get to pick a single Metmagic Feat of some sort?
- Why not give them one of the overtly rogueish abilities other non-Rogue classes get? Shadowstep? Maybe a version of Misty Escape?

Honestly, since I know they won't do any of these, I'm waiting for the mod tools to come out so I can work on a Rogue Rebalancing mod - just like old Baldur's Gate games ended up needing!

I've been waiting for a fix for this since release. I get hopeful every time I read the Mage Hand Legerdemain description in game from the Notable Features section of the character screen as it still reads that "Your Mage Hand can stow away or retrieve objects carried by other creatures and use Thieves' Tools a range." Add to this that the Mage Hand description still has section for Mage Hand Legerdemain that reads as "When you cast Mage Hand, the spectral hand is invisible and can carry out additional tasks."

I would LOVE to see this fixed for Legerdemain to work as described. However, if they aren't going to fix it, at least spend the 30 seconds to remove the text from the descriptions so we can all move on and stop spending time researching it every week or so to determine whether it's been fixed yet .

So TrY my Build Bro. Works Just Like Larian wished to do the arcane Trickster..

(3 Thief Trickery/9 Mage)
go with the School yu Like the Most..
but for astarion i normally do Necro Feels lore wise.

just get the the Necro Book of Fay and go Nuts with the Rest.
can get Shovel too if yu dont need hin for yu
yu will be able to use two swords, two daggers, bow, and Trow a Bunch of powerfull stuff
but i advice to at least get the Thunder Touch cantrip for close combat and always have some Invisibility or from itens or from your spell itself..
and when yu Run out of Spell Slots.. No Problem Sneacky the hell of and use the bow.

But i Normally Focos on Intel for this Build.. when i use on Astarion i go with 19 intel/16 dex
get the armor from cresch to up 2 the Dex to get 18 or use the Gloves and spend the rest of the points in another stat..

I call this Build The True Arcane Trickster..
like i told thats what Larian wished for hin.. haha
but made wrong..
and yu will be a Jack of all Trades..

Just Give a Shot.. i used this always Now on Hin especially becouse i dont Like the Original from hin.
so i Made this inspired in my Times from Table Top. i love to be a Thief/Mage in Table Top.

another Tip for this Build.. To get Strong early Focus on Mage lvl, when yu Reach act 2 start to get in to the rest of Thief.. yu will be strong enought already as Mage.
(and Save evry Scrooll yu Get to Learn the spells yu dont Get per lvl up)
