From what I know about Minthara I do agree, that it makes sense, that she wants you to take the power and if things go south, she'd probably leave.
I don't know about another bhaalspawn - where was that mentioned?
The only other Bhaalspawn I can think of is Sarevok, but he’s very enthusiastic about you killing Orin, so I don’t think it was him?
