Hello! After updating to the most recent patch, Steam has stopped launching the launcher. What happens instead is that I press the green play button on Steam, it turns blue as it loads the launcher, then it turns green again (as if something aborted the launch) and it doesn't give me any kind of error message.

I've tried everything I could think of. I launched a different game to see if it was a Steam issue, and the other game launched fine. I verified my game files on Steam. I uninstalled and reinstalled. I cleared extra hard drive space. I turned off background programs. I made sure there was an exception in my antivirus software for the launcher. I found the launcher executable in my local files and tried to run it as an administrator. I updated my drivers. I rebooted multiple times. I closed any programs using up large amounts of bandwidth in case it was an Internet issue. Consistently, the launcher will not launch, and it won't even spit an error code at me.

Any help would be much appreciated, because I have run out of ideas for what to do.

EDITED TO ADD: Also, I do not use mods and have never used mods for this game, so that can't be the cause either.

Have you try launch it without the launcher?

In case you haven't it should be at (your steam games folder)>baldurs gate 3>bin. You'll find two exes there "bg3" for vulkan and "bg3_dx11" for direct x

I just gave it a shot. The bad news is that neither executable worked. The good news is that it finally spat out some error messages for me!

It said that multiple files weren't found, so the code execution couldn't proceed. The relevant files were 'MSVCP140.dll' and 'VCRUNTIME140.dll'. The error messages said that reinstalling the program could help, but I reinstalled this morning and I don't know if another reinstall would actually do anything that this morning's reinstall didn't do.

You should make a ticket to larian support with all that info, because if you already reinstalled and verify files i doubt you can get more help on the forum

The only thing I can't think is make a fully clean reinstall. Uninstall the game. After that manually delete all leftover files from the steam folder and the user folder. Clean registry just to be 100% sure and reinstall (I'm almost sure that this isn't going to work if you already reinstall and verify, but cost nothing give it a try)

Edit: You may try to revert to the previous patch in the meantime. I'm not sure how to do it on steam (if posible) because I play on GOG where it just a one click action, but you may google it

Thank you for the help! I've made a ticket for Larian, and I'll try to do a fully clean reinstall. We'll see if the clean reinstall does it!

Hey so, I had this issue for a little while before patch 4. Basically I fixed it by going into the Steam Launch Options for the game under Settings and put something like —skip launcher-

That’s not the EXACT thing I typed but probably online you can find the phrase you need. It should fix your problem if you skip the launcher altogether

That is the same solution i give firts but didn't work neither (What you did whith that steam command is just tell steam to execute the game exe in bin folder i told about)

So I did a fully clean reinstall, and I'm still running into the same problem. At this point, all I can probably do is see if I can revert to the previous patch and hope that Larian gets to my ticket. It's really too bad to see everyone having so much fun with Patch 4 and being locked out of checking it out myself.
