I'm having a very fundamental problem that's embarrassing, and that might well cause a lot of (deserved) laughs ... but for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to download or apply any BG3 patches. The Web is full of announcements that a new patch is here. When you search on how to download & apply one, the Web is full of advice on how to apply an ADD-ON. But I can find absolutely zero instructions on how to update BG3 with the latest patch, or how to tell whether it's been updated automatically somehow. Could I possibly throw myself on the mercy of the community and get some bog-level insight into this issue? Many thanks in advance!

Hi there, what platform are you playing on, and if relevant are you using Steam or GOG? I’m sure someone will be able to clarify if you let us know.

Thank you! I'm playing on a Windows PC, and purchased the game through Steam.

In that case there shouldn't be anything for you to do. Assuming you have an active internet connection and you are not starting Steam in offline mode, the game should update automatically.
You can also verify the version number of the game (it is listed on the lower right side of the main menu screen). As of right now, the latest version is 4.1.1.3911062

the current build is 4.1.1.3911062 and assumes Windows PC which is what most people call the hotfix 10

places it shows up is; Gog Galaxy users can goto their updates list 'untick automatic' and its the top one or any PC user can open their Larian launcher and it is printed under the start buttion where you pick between DX11 or Vulkan, finially once you start the game and goto the loading screen where you pick 'new' or 'save/ load' its printed on the bottom right of this screen

no patch ever shows up in file exploer

if you use Mac or Gog off line installs then you will not be current yet... give it a few more days [weeks for Mac]

edit Gog Galaxy Mac users will see hotfix 10 just dropped so i assume Steam has it now as well

Luke Skywalker: I don't, I don't believe it.

Thanks so much, Bomor--that's exactly what happened! And thanks to everybody else for all the help.

That's because with Patch 4 they changed the way they did things. Previously the patch and hotfix files would appear in the game bin folder (they were effectively overrides). With P4 the old patches and hotfixes were removed and everything was incorporated into a patch which directly overrwrote game files. Among other things it means the patches and hotfixes wont eat up so much of your drive space.

You might want to consider stopping GOG doing automatic updates to remove the risk of Larian breaking your game.
