Absolutely essential but only if well done.
Games like BG3, Witcher 3 and the last few expansions of WoW really makes me feel like I am in a movie
On the other hand games like Fallout 4 made cinematics really bad/ generic and didn’t add much to the story .
But if done right they are amazing
