Hi Death,
If a person's grip is strong enough, then the sword won't slip from their hands. It's not that hard to hold on to a sword even with rings. Rings don't have to be heavy or large in a game. One ring can be several ounces to a pound I guess. That's not heavy even with ten rings.
Thanks.

Errr... Alright, I don't want my DD character to look like that. Call me a wierdo but I can't just imagine 10 rings. Maybe it's because I am used to the classic 2-rings layout?

if that's the case then we're back to square one: two rings.
i have a feeling we're running in circles here.

To get back to topic.... The simplest thing they can do is to not stack bonusses. So if you have a ring of +3 to strength and a ring of +2 to strength then you only get the +3 and not the +5. Then it's not about having as much rings, amulets or whatever, but to find the best match. Then having 10 rings becomes a bit useless.

Now that I think about it, ten rings does seem a little ridiculous. They would have to tone down the magical powers of rings for balance, so what's the point of wearing ten weaker rings when you can get the same effect with two powerful rings?

Everything comes with pros and cons. So what a ring might add to let's say strength, might be partially undone by another ring that gives you extra protection from something but decreases your strength. In my opinion powerfull magical items should not only add, but also subtract something from an other stat. So you will have to select which amulet/ring or whatever is best in the current situation.

such system with add & subtract features exists in dungeon siege. items that are high on strength will have penalty of minus in magic/mana. something like that. it's good as this will be a balancing factor which will force thoughts on combo of wearable items which will reflect strategy.

Good call! They're doing that in Deus Ex 2. For those who don't know, Deus Ex is a FPS RPG where you're a cybernetic agent. You can upgarde yourself with bio-augs, providing new skills and abilities. In the second game, you can get some of these bio-augs on the black market. They have great benefits, but come with side-effects. Something like this could be good if you're going to have 10 rings. Like janggut said, have a ring provide a benefit and a penalty. eg. +3 Strength and –2 Constitution. You'd still need to lower the stats of each ring. You can't have a Warrior with 10 rings of +3 Strength and -2 Intelligence. Warriors don't need Intelligence for the most part. Personally, I prefer the idea of two rings. It's harder to mix and match them this way. You have to search for the perfect rings for you and make tough decissions, and not just get little bits here and there.

Ahh. Well I have very low expectations for Deus Ex 2. For once the interface is horrible, really. Then it will me made both for Xbox and Computer and most games made that way work well only for xbox. And finally... Most sequels suck. Alright, this is but my personal opinion.
